Spring Mite Treatments
« on: March 25, 2020, 04:59:18 pm »
Anyone doing spring mite treatments?  Or spring mite tests?

During my hive checks today, I dug deep into one strong colony that had mites in the drone brood.  As mites go, they will bring down the strongest colonies the hardest.  This colony had brood in both deeps two weeks ago when I reversed brood boxes.  I left this one alone so as not to break up the brood.  In my check today, I still found brood in both boxes and mites in with the drone pupae.  I put Formic Pro on all those colonies.  In 14 days I will do a mite test to see where they are at.  I hope to split this colony, eventually.

We started Apigaurd two weeks ago.  We put the second dose in the hives Monday, and will let it sit in there for another four weeks.
