Right between the eyes!
« on: May 24, 2020, 08:40:29 pm »
I'm nursing a bee sting I got a little bit ago. She nailed me right between the eyes!  Ka-blam!  Funny thing, I saw it coming like a major league baseball pitcher would throw.  I can't use Benadryl, but I am applying my Baker's Venom Cleanser.  That's the best I can do.  What am I going to look like tomorrow?  8)

So? How was it today?
Hoping it isn’t too bad...

Yesterday I woke up with a slit for a left eye.  The right eye wasn't so bad.  As the day progressed, the swelling went down.  Overnight the swelling came back a little and it's a little red in the swollen tissue.  I imagine the itching will start soon.
It's funny.  I didn't say anything to my husband about getting stung.  I try not to complain when it happens.  I really don't think I should complain because beekeeping was all my idea.  He never said a word about my eyes being swollen!

Oh, and no pictures.

Well, even though no photos, and since Perry is MIA, I’ll let this one slide...

Glad to hear you are surviving!

B13,

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but the "buzz" on the internet is that beekeepers are having a lower or less intense reaction the covid virus. I got stung a few days ago and tried to bear this in mind.
Of course, like anything on the 'net, it could be crazy!  :)

Hmmm...I don't know if there is any science behind this, but beekeepers should be covered if it is true.

I saw on tv yesterday that Vitamin D helps reduce the symptoms as well.  That is an easy fix.  We can get more sun and drink milk.

I don't want to jinx myself, but I think my reaction to stings have decreased over the years.   :bee:

Most of the time, I have trouble finding the sting site after about an hour. Every so often I'll get nailed in a spot that hurts and swells like crazy. I haven't been able to sort out the rhyme or reason to it.  :)

I should have said that Vitamin D might help reduce the symptoms of Covid-19, not bee stings!

Follow up:  I was lucky.  Swelling was gone in 2 days.  No itching and very little redness.  My husband never even noticed.  ???

There is an interesting article in the June 2020 issue of Bee Culture Magazine.  The article, Bee Venom, by Ed Simon discusses normal to severe reactions to bee stings.  He tells the stories of 2 different beekeepers and how they went from normal to severe in a short time.  For further reading, he has included links to articles with which he has drawn information from.  Simon states that some beekeepers become desensitized to stings, for others it can go to the other extreme.   Some of those warning signs are listed as well as what to do about it.

Husband didn't notice one eye swollen shut?

Do you normally look like Popeye?
