It's a start I guess. A lot of farmers up here don't seem to pay much attention to their practices when spraying (dusk/dawn/winds/etc.). Maybe a successful lawsuit against at least one would catch the attention of the rest!

Wow. It also says she was in charge of a municipal anti-mosquito spraying operation.  I wonder if that means the municipality could be held responsible as well?  Unfortunately, we in the lower 48 tend to not pay any attention to what happens in other countries.  This type of news never makes it past forums such as this.  slowmodem found this in an Aussie publication.

Actually, it was a story on our local news last night.  I just had trouble finding a link to a story on google.

It's not so much that we don't pay attention.  It's more that our news media is selective in what they want us to pay attention to.  The good ole US of A is not as "free" as it once was, and our media not so "objective" as we might like to believe.  Sheep we are.  And herded as such . . .

Excuse me.  The older I get, the more cynical and suspicious I get.  :D

If your cynical, so am I!  That was my point as well.

This is Confessional Tuesday!  I confess I hardly ever watch the news, not even the weather report.  I do listen to the news on the radio.  I am tired of seeing non-news turned into a news story.  I could care less about Paris Hilton, Mylie Cyrus, or Justin Bieber.  They are entertainment, not news.  Some network news director is determining what we will watch and what will get the highest ratings.
Locally, the news, amounts to just a few minutes of murders and high speed car chases and the rest is fluff.
Oh, I DO sound cynical.

I couldn't agree more.  It has reached such a point with me that someone has to call me when something really newsworthy happens, because I won't even turn the news on.
When My son was in Afganistan.. I used to get so ANGRY at the thirty second news clip that "another" American was killed just before they began the IMPORTANT 10 minute story of how some movie star was arraigned for being an idiot...
My wife doesnt let me watch Fox any more either.. probably because I scream at the TV from 3 inches away...  Never could figure out how Bill was so patient with some of those peoples...

Fox...what a joke.
Remember during the Vietnam war the news actually covered the war?  We saw men out in the heat of battle.  We would see news coverage of fallen soldiers being shipped home at the airport.  I wish I could remember more details, but I saw a documentary about 9/11 and Geo Bush's reaction to the whole disaster.  Pres. Bush ordered that the networks not show any images of flag draped coffins coming home from the middle east.  He wanted the American public's outrage to continue long after that day in September.

Spent a bit of time talking with George Senior. You cant believe everything you see and hear. Dont claim any political party as mine, but when the president of the US can sit and talk hunting and fishing with an old country boy like me, and have a great evening doing it, without acting a snob, he has my respect. Barbara and my wife talked and laughed just as much.. they were real people.
When we walked into the room that night, and sat down, the other rich @#*&%#$ at the table got up and moved, so I was impressed when George and Barbra came straight to our table and sat with us.. I bet it really ticked off them rich folks. They spent the whole evening with us.  Got invited to go striper fishing..  but I can tell you, never pull into the presidents house with a shotgun in the gun rack.. gravel tastes REALLY bad.
