Hi everyone, what is the protocol for using metal pots, metal spoons, metal storage containers, metal extractors, etc etc ... with honey?

I think stainless steel is safe and food grade.  Think of extractors.  They are stainless steel.  You could check with your state food inspectors.

I've been seeing this question around lately, if you shouldn't use a metal spoon or any metal utensils with honey.  I had someone ask me about it recently, so I did some looking about it, and since honey is acidic it can react with some metals, but only after a very long time, and it won't react with stainless.  I wouldn't store honey in anything that wasn't stainless, but using metal utensils is not a problem.

The US gov. has many 55 gal. drums stored. I doubt it hurts very much.

 Good info here, Thanks! I did more research as well and the three metals that can be used long term are... stainless steal, pure gold and pure silver  ;)

Now I recall someone just asked me that question.  She said she heard that you shouldn't use a metal spoon with honey.  Without time to really think about it, I simply told her that was a new one to me.  How does this stuff get started!

The first extractor I ever owned was made of zinc plated sheet metal. Jt was good for preventing rust but I really don't know if it would be recommended for honey storage. I would guess that the length of time the honey stays in contact with the metal has a lot to do with whether or not it would be problematic. 
Stainless steel is non reactive and therefore can be used safely for long term storage.
