No Bake Energy Balls using Honey
« on: February 25, 2014, 06:39:03 pm »
Need some energy to pack along on those long days in the bee yard, swarm catching or cut outs?  Well never fear, No Bake Energy Balls will save you!  You will find various combinations of this recipe online.

1 c.     quick oats
1/2 c.  peanut butter (Walmart sells an affordable natural peanut butter)
1/2 c.  ground flax seed (or wheat germ-----I used an extra 1/2 c. oats because flax can bind me up)
1/2 c.  chocolate chips (I prefer dark chocolate)
1/3 c.  HONEY  :)
1 tsp   vanilla (I like the expensive stuff or in my case homemade (took six months of soaking vanilla beans in Vodka)  ;D

*You might consider adding 1/4 c. coconut flakes and reduce one of the dry ingredients by 1/4 c.

Mix together, put in fridge for 20-30 minutes and then roll in 1" or so balls.  You can use a scoop or pinch and roll baby.
Store in air tight container on the the counter for up to a week.

Enjoy....I am still picking oats out of my teeth and enjoying them a second time while typing... ;D

No bake?  The co-op sells something similar only they are baked.  They call them Bumble Bees.
How about adding sesame seeds?   They are healthy for you.

Sounds like that needs some peanuts or pecans.
Bees are bees and do as they please!

Yeap, all good modifications.  Pecans do sound good in it.   Dried fruit like cranberries and the like are also possible.

I'm going to give these a try and take them to the beginning beekeepers class coming up.  Snacks accompanied with the recipe(if it contains honey) are encouraged.  Because they can sit out all day with out refrigeration,  I think this is a good one.

Well, those are addictive.  I think a name change might be in order!
I used the commercial mixer at work so no muscle building stirring for me.  I had a few kids taste them and got all smiles back.
Here's the changes I made.  I used crunchy peanut butter and stirred in some sesame seeds.  I think mini chocolate chips would be good, if you have them but not necessary.  I also wondered if a few sunflower seeds would be good.
These would be great to make with small children.
Thanks blueblood.  It's a winner.

:D, your welcome bakers.  The mix does take some muscle power! I am glad the kiddos like them.  I will have to try crunchy butter next time....
