Prickly Pears & Bees
« on: June 05, 2014, 10:30:23 am »
I don't know how much they will contribute to the nectar flow, but the girls are sure working the prickly pears that are blooming at the house.  They would completely disappear in the blossom and come out totally covered in pollen.

Yep... Prickly Pear Cactus.  And the fruit (tunas) are a wonderful addition to mead.  I think I am down to 3 or 4 bottles from my last 6 1/2 gallon batch.  :)

Prickly 'Pear' can also refer to the 'pear' shaped paddle. They grow well in California and the blooms are lovely and short lived ~
