« on: December 03, 2014, 12:04:03 pm »
This is what a crew of marines look like having there first good meal after pulling out of Kuwait.  They have been setting about 25 miles from Iraq border for about 2 months.  They have moved to Bahrain and My son tyler sent this pic of them having there first real breakfast after arriving in Bahrain He is setting at the head of the table

 Right on!
Doesn't the guy on the far left look a lot like blueblood?

Martinez to Tyler's left is crew chief over an AAV and my son the other AAV. There are 2 crews there and these guys are inseparable even when off base.  They have spent the last 3 Christmas's and thanksgivings together.  Usually going to Martinez house in Cali when they are in Cali. Their  Superior officers dont give them enough time off at christmas to come home when in San Diego.  They have to be able to ship out within a 48 hr notice so they are not able to get much leave.  Over in Bahrain they dont have much choice but to spend it together but I bet they make memories that last a lifetime

Good looking bunch of soldiers rat., i'm hopping all the conflict over there will be just a memory. We've lost to many exceptional good Americans fighting for people who hate us. Jack

You gotta love those short haired warriors.  God bless them and God bless you river rat for having a son that will serve our country.  Like the other Lazy said, "that picture will live on for decades."  I still pull some of my pictures from Korea and Nam.

aw lee, just had to tease you.........

we have neighbors across the street at the suburb res..........she was a navy dog handler, (iraq) and he was army.......on a team that accompanied the naval dog handlers for house to house or other searches.....(iraq).

amazing stories from these two. she doesn't talk much about it, and he does only when we ask.  one of the dogs they own, a black lab, was one of the dogs she worked with. the lab was to be put down because of a bombing incident, and was never the same. the husband went through a great deal of trouble and brought the lab back for her from iraq as a gift.  she tells me, he couldn't bear to see the dog put down. they worked with him.  anyway, i watch their dogs from time to time, the lab is a very gentle animal, very protective of them both, but more so her.

amazing history of this lab.....and i am eternally grateful to anyone who has served or is in military service.

RRat... It wasn't to long ago that you and wife were so worried. This is such a relief to see those fine soldiers relaxing and enjoying a meal together. Happy for you and your wife  :)

I was leading a group of physicians and nurses through a Combat Casualty Care Course in 1990.  Part of the course was stretcher training.  Welp, they had a big guy (220+) on the stretcher and it had to go from point A to point B.  A 5' tall nurse was on one end and I was on the other, it was all I could do to carry my end of that stretcher.  This slight looking female nurse, carried her end, and walked backwards to point B without so much as a grimace.  I learned right there of the grit some people have......Its a big oversight not to say "men and women" of the military today rb.  :)

Yes we learned they had moved his group out of Kuwait and back to the USS Comestock this week.  They pulled him out on Thanksgiving day.  We have had the chance to talk to him once on Facebook.  He wasn't sure how long he would be in Bahrain but thought it was a matter of time before he was back in Kuwait. Part of the infantry that deployed out of his AAV stayed back in Kuwait they have been cross trained to deploy out of Blackhawk helicopters and are doing special ops.
