Hey Beeracuda, I am so sorry to hear of your illness. I will put you on my prayer list.

In my opinion Iddee has the best feeding concept. Being able to see your girls sucking up sugar syrup will certainly be therapeutic. Like many of the other posters stated, be careful and take care of yourself. Your good health is the most important issue facing you. In the big picture, the bees are small caca. Take care, and we will become your prayer warriors.

I mixed up some 2:1 sugar water tonight. I will put that out tomorrow morning close to the bedroom window so I can watch the girls feed. If I am up to it (I am feeling great, just no stamina.) I will take a peek into one of my hives tomorrow afternoon.

I had a pint jar that had some buckwheat honey that had been in the pantry for a couple of years. I mixed that with a little water and topped it off with 2:1 sugar water. I put that out with a quart of 2:1 sugar water about 2 hours ago. They have just about finished off the buckwheat honey and are working on the sugar water pretty hard too. All the hives have lots of bees on the front porches and are looking good. I am surprised at how fast they are taking the feed. This is the first time I have done any open feeding. Pretty cool stuff..

Glad to hear that you are feeling good. Sending you good energy to keep that going.

I love to watch the girls feeding and am always amazed at how quickly they can drink up a jar of syrup. Maybe now that you are feeling better, it's a good time to introduce your girl to the hives? She can keep you from over-doing and you can give her instruction. I bet she falls in love with the girls, just like we all did!

I was able to check two of the hives today. I checked the one where I saw all the drones and checked my weakest hive.

The drones I was seeing may have some that the girls were trying to boot out. I didn't see many in the hive today and I did see the queen. They had plenty of stores and everything else looked OK to me. The girls were primarily in the upper deep.

The weakest hive had maybe 20 pounds of honey in the upper box. They were in the bottom box. This hive has a solid bottom board and the other has a screened bottom board.

Overall, I think they are in pretty good shape. I will continue to open feed when the weather allows. I think I will start outpatient chemo this week, so I don't know what or when I can do with the hives from here on out. Fortunately, the local bee club meeting is Tuesday and I will go to see if I can get some outside help.

I had some lids for a Boardman feeder and the quickest thing I could grab were those tables. It works well

I got a good report from the Oncologist this week. I am in remission! I will start my "consolidation" therapy next week, alternating two different chemo drugs each month for the next 6 months on an outpatient basis. One of the drugs may keep me down for about a month, according to the doctor. The other won't be so bad. So hopefully, I will be able to at least help with the hives. My girlfriend is starting to get into it. She is now wanting a "hive of her own".
