If we put on our big girl and boy pants and keep other members feelings in mind. It would make for some good discussion.  Lets not rundown others simply because they believe different. Don't take opinions you don't agree with personal and don't get personal towards others with opinions. This type of discussion can get politically charged and soon a line is drawn in the sand and we start a war with words.  I think the good people of this forum are above and beyond this and can debate the subject in a civil and informative manor.  If not we can always pull the plug on the thread

I'm a Canadian, so my opinion is probably not all that relevant to what happens south of the border. We have strict gun control laws here, so what you see happening there is out of my realm.
It seems as if a few of the individuals involved have had previous run-ins before, and even the 2 fellows turning themselves in are trying to distance themselves from the group that has occupied the land. Laws apply to all and no one should be above them.

Tell that to Rosa Parks. Her and others thought the laws were wrong, and did about the same thing to get them changed. I think she was right, and I think the Bundys are right. They both stood up to what they thought was a tyrannical government.

I don't know if this topic is just to find out opinions or is open for debate, so I will be careful as I have already given my opinion.
Iddee, there are ways to express one's dissatisfaction with government and /or laws, in fact every 4 years it is available. Whether those ways work for you is a matter of democracy.
Disagreeing with the order of law and taking matters into your own hands will only lead to where no one wants to go.

Don't pass out Perry, but i think i agree with you ??? I'm really not up to date on what's going on? Who owns this land? if it belongs to the government (all of us) and other ranchers are renting it and paying for grassing rights, then the Bundys are free loaders and breaking the law. If the land belongs to the ranchers and the government has claimed it for some reason and not turned it back to them? Well that's why we have a court system. To take up arms and threaten to kill anyone who tries to stop them is just asking for trouble. I hope they are smart enough not to fire the first shot. Jack

From what little information I've been able to read, and the few interviews that I've listened to, I believe they are wrong.  I think there are principles worth standing up for, and believe there are "things" within our government that I would like to see changed, but, to me, this...whatever it is...is silly.  I understand I have not got all the information regarding this matter and reserve the right to change my mind.

Can anyone who has more info on this subject please share it with us?  What do they want?  What will they consider a win?  Which of their constitutional rights are being stepped on?  Exactly and precisely which ones and how do they connect with this, what?, National Park?  Yours Truly, Confused in Iowa

Hi Ray.  Thanks for the responce.  I still fail to understand how Federal Governments ownership of land, the endangered species law, property owners rights, gun owners rights, etc. has to do with a U.S. wildlife refuge.  Is that just the stage they chose to air their grievances?  Or is there a connection between their grievances and that praticular area?

If there wasn't people like the Bundys, there would still be "white only" signs everywhere. If the law is wrong, it takes drastic measures to get it corrected. It don't get done just for the asking. The folks that went to jail were paying the government to lease the land to graze. They burned the weeds off so the good grass could grow. They served their time for it. Now, the overpowering government decided their sentence was too short, so they are sending them back to do more time than the trial judge sentenced them to. Doesn't that sound like a wonderful government we can all be proud of. NOT!!!

And therein lies the rub. Would another government do anything any differently? The biggest problem that we both seem to share in our two countries is the completely entrenched bureaucracy. A different government is elected and the first thing they encounter are career bureaucrats, well protected with either strong union affiliation or golden handshakes that makes them all but impossible to replace. We see it up here, particularly in fields like education, health care, etc. (try and reform the education system and see what you run up against).
Governments come and go at the will of the people but not necessarily those under them.
Kinda ironic don't ya think? ;D
