got my 1st swarm call & 1st removal call of the season today. turned them both down. I was too busy & they were too far away.

3 or 4 years ago I would respond to every and any call. I have since tempered my enthusiasm somewhat and try to gauge the difficulty level on the phone before I run out and jump in the truck. ;D

the removal would have been a good paying gig. the drawbacks: traffic at the location sucks 24/7 & it was rush hour. I just milled all the parts & was in the middle of assembling 25 outer & inner covers. 1/2 of which are already sold. I need to mount the mower on my tractor & cut grass or i'll soon need a baler, 14 hives & 15 nucs to check & feed, &, &, &......you can't catch them all.

perry now walks slowly to his truck, hangs on to the steering wheel and slides in on the seat, drives to the ice cream stand, takes out his map and tries to figure out how to get to iddee's home. All the while eating his ice cream and reading at the same time. :laugh: Jack

Got my first call ever. Unfortunately it was from a little old lady over 6 hours away. It was a colony that took up ten feet of her outside wall and the bees were coming in her bathroom making it unusable. I felt terrible for her and tried to get keeps a little closer to her to help. Turns out she is in a rent house and the landlord doesn't want a cut out. So he had an exterminator come and kill them. Bummer! :sad:

Now she will have to worry about honey running on the floor, the smell, and after awhile other bugs and mice drawn to the decaying nest. Jack

I explained to her that not cutting out the comb was a bad choice but ultimately it was up to her landlord. At the very least another swarm will move in.

What Jack said.. that will be a real mess... 40 to 60K bees rotting, along with rotting brood, and fermenting honey.. not to mention TICKED OFF bees returning to an insecticide filled hive...  WOnder how many vacated into the house when it was sprayed?  Hope she didnt open that bathroom door for a couple weeks...
