Love the nuthatches! their markings are so beautiful, and they are such busy little birds, like Wrens.

thanks!

jen, wrens can be a PITA........they will tear up nests and throw out eggs of nesting nuthatches, chickadees and bluebirds.......

nuthatches nest up here a little earlier than chickadees, (not far behind), wrens are a little behind for us this year.  i would rather see the nuthatches, chickadees and bluebirds rather than the wrens.  the males are prolific baby makers and they will stash every bird house you have available, mate multiple times..........and most times the bird houses just get filled up with nesting material and left empty and any nest by another bird will be torn up........ drives me crazy.  one year i took a hose to a wren trying to destroy a chickadee's nest..........hmmm and a bluebirds nest...........little turds...... :D :D :D

Well darn, didn't know they were a pain in the booty like that. We had a mountain man friend up in the hills and he had some wrens nest in a bird house hung on his porch. They real cute and very busy little birds.

That's the big blue nuthatch,we've got those and the little black and white ones, our problem birds are the brown headed cow birds, what a pain in the a*$, nut hatched are pretty to watch running down a tree head first.

yes! white breasted, the little black and white ones mikey are the red breasted, purty little things!  love to watch them both running down trees head first.

we do have the brown cow birds too, i try to chase them off when i see them near a nest.  it's sorta funny but sad when you see a teeny bird like a finch feeding a baby cow bird, 2 and 3 times the size of a finch.

yes jen they are a pain, they are very busy birds, will nest just about anywhere and in anything suitable, but can be very destructive. amazing how a little bird can be so aggressive.

I had fun this spring watching my wife battle with a barn swallow building a mud nest on top of our front porch light and crapping everywhere. ;D She would tear it down and clean the mess up and the next day it would start all over again  this went on for all most 2 weeks putting her in a bad mood and using words i hadn't heard her say in a long time  She finally told me that i had to kill the little A- Hole :D. I like the little fellows and have several at the barn that i can walk by and almost reach out and pet? they don't seem to be afraid of me? I got a rubber snake and put it on top of the porch light  and that put a stop to the bird problem, BUT, i forgot to tell her what i did at the time, and a neighbor lady come to visit and i heard her scream then my wife screamed?? i was in the bee yard and run up ( walked fast ) to see what happened, well after i told them what i had done,Guess what ??? I'm the A- Hole now.  Jack

Wrens can be a pain in the A-ss if you don’t know how to control them. They build their nest with twigs to the top of the bird house hole. You cant destroy them like we can do with house sparrows. Wrens are protected by law.  How I control my wrens. I keep my bird houses away from wooded areas about 200'. wrens cant fly very fast. They don’t like to fly over open fields. They like to build their nest close to wooded areas. I like wrens. I stick a few houses in my wooded areas. They fill up every house. I wont let house sparrows nest in my boxes. If I see one male sparrow hanging around. I get rid of him.
