A Day Working Bees.
« on: June 02, 2016, 11:00:16 am »
Was working a outyard last Monday when my brother called and said one of my hives was turned over on his property about 15 miles from where i was? It was late when i got there and they were all home and it was the biggest hive in the yard. 3 deeps and 4 med. supers mostly full but not all capped and they were not happy . Must of happened 3 to 4 days earlier/ they had built comb between the separated supers? the skid they were on had rotted so i set concrete blocks for a stand and started setting it back up 8). If you've ever had this happen you know what happened  Lost count of the stings, mostly ankles and legs, i never taped my pant legs :o it was hot and muggy and my bee jacket was sticking to me with sweat, gloves also. Well got it back up, had to separate the frames they were stuck together, and hang them straight in there boxes. The top super had two frames of honey stuck together and when i broke them apart UGH, there was hundreds of shb larva crawling through them :o a sickening  sight that no beekeeper would ever want to see . I went through the rest of the frames and never found any more or signs of shb, odd that i never seen any adult shb while putt the hive back? One reason is, this is an extremely large colony and i had to keep brushing the bees off my veil so i could see. I know iddee, perry squirt, mammy, Lazy's and many others on the forum are worried about me, But i'm all healed up now, working in the truck garden and ready for more action. Jack

Yes! I Was Worried! Dag Nabbit Jack! You Should Have Gone Back To The House And Got Suited Up For An Event Like That!

But, I have to admit that earlier this spring I got nailed about 30 times.... Soooo....

But Dag Nabbit Jack! We Should Be Smarter Than That!

I hope you get yelled at real good by Iddee!

Glad you are okay my friend, and I mean that! ~Hugs~

Jen, home was 60 miles south of where i was, it was hot and muggy and i only use a jacket with the hood and gloves. When you sweat and the jacket sticks to your skin (i only had a T- shirt on under the jacket) the girls can have a field day stinging through it, you don't usually get the full sting, but enough you know it. The worst of them was my ankles :o i took so many there that they felt like they were on fire, didn't feel like stings and when i got home they looked like Popey legs :D, but after taking a shower and supper most of the swelling was gone and i scratched like a dog all night  Mourning came and i was healed up. Jack

Yesterday i went to a bee yard at a neighbor friend only 5 miles from home. I had made a split 3 or 4 weeks ago? really i had forgot about them? The mother hive had bees bearding all over the front, the temp. was in the upper 70's and humid, i smoked them and took the lid off and things got bad in a hurry :o (2 deeps and 2 med. supers) the top deep and both supers were both full of brood and honey, the bottom deep was empty. I was going to rotate  the two deeps when all a sudden bees are flying inside my veil :o, i took off through the Cedar trees taking the veil off on the run, but took 2 stings under the lower lip, 2 behind left ear, 1 on the neck before i got it off . Found i didn't have the zipper closed all the way on one side, went back to put the hive together and they were waiting for me , i got it together and put another super on top taking more hits. I never got to look at frames to many mad stinging bees, had to run through the Cedars to loose them again, that hive had never been hot?? Checked the split that made there queen and found eggs and new larva, so all was well except i could of used my lower lip for a ash tray(if i was a smoker) driving home. Swelling was mostly gone when i got home and drank a beer  It wasn't over, i opened the garage walkout door to go check the cows and a red wasp nailed me on the back of the neck :o. I'm thinking Blabber mouth may have a Voodoo doll ???  Taking all these hits and i haven't started robbing yet  Jack

Wait! Am I reading this right?! So this means you didn't put the veil back on? or put the veil back on and did finish zipping the veil?!
