Son (pictured with granddaughter) is coming home this weekend to get the boat ready for the family fishing trip. Yippee

That's really a nice looking boat, and the cargo is precious. There's nothing more fulfilling than having fun with your family. Have a great vacation and love every moment of it. Gee, I hate to think how much a granddaughter would cost me, but it would be worth every penny.

Thanks and yes, they're pretty special Lazy. Mine really enjoys fishing and has been many miles offshore. She knows all the species we catch and can tell you their gender, if not by looks, at the cleaning table. Good times.

Chip:

I fish with an old pal of the Texas coast from time to time. We catch a wide variety of fish, but we always anchor near an abandoned oil rig and catch red snapper. Red snapper basted with a mixture of lemon juice and butter and sprinkled with a bit of Tony Chachere's or Zateran's seasoning powder and slow cooked over coals is some kind of good table fare.

The love of fishing in the gulf, is that you never can predict what you might catch.

For sure Lazy. We fish for different things when we take the family vacation and we always include snapper (red and mangrove) because they're so tasty. Catch some crazy things sometimes. Caught a snake eel the other year. Tried to attach it here but the site must be experiencing difficulties. I'll try later--a very ugly fish with a bad attitude.

Another try. Looks like the image was too large. This is a King Snake Eel. Caught it fishing snapper one day. Attitude fits their looks! Heard they were good to eat but we didn't care for it.

Caught this one the same day but it was tasty. I'm ready to go. Been taking a break from the bees to get the trailer ready for the trip.

Ken, we call them goldfish when we're fishing for them too. That particular one was caught on the bottom in 400 feet of water using a 2 lb live fish for bait. I was trying for a grouper and got a goldfish instead

Bass are good Iddee--I used to fish them many years ago and a 2 pounder is a nice fish. My big wish is to reduce our hive numbers so I can do a little fishing around home. Seems like whenever I'm near home and trying to relax, I always remember something I need to do and it often something to do with the bees or something I didn't do because I was busy with the bees. When we go to Louisiana, I really enjoy myself cause I'm far away and forget about all the stuff here. Simple mind I guess but it's the only one I have

Mikey, It's a Regulator. They are built in Edenton, NC about a 20 minute ride from where my wife grew up in Elizabeth City. We bought it in NC in Wilmington (Wrightsville Beach); it was a year hold-over back during the recession so I got a good deal on her--was able to buy a new one at a used boat price. We fish out of Venice, Louisiana--straight south of New Orleans about 90 miles. Pulling a 8 1/2 foot wide boat (9 feet wide with the trailer) down I10 in the "Big Easy" during rush hour (I think it's busy all the time) is not for the faint of heart. I've never gotten used to it. Once you get past that, there is a tunnel that's 13 feet high (The boat is 12 1/2 feet high on the trailer) and I drive right down the middle very SLOW and get honked at a lot

After that, it's pretty smooth sailing till it's time to head home. We've had her in the Atlantic (during a small craft advisory when I sea trialed her before the purchase) and also out of Port Mansfield, TX back when the Deepwater Horizon closed the Gulf in LA. They make good boats in NC. We've had this one 100 miles offshore many times.

Helicopters and the rigs Mikey? Not much between Venice and Port Fourchon but water and rigs. Some of them look like small cities, especially at night. I think most all of them have helicopter pads on them. There have been many days I wish I had the height advantage to see fish busting surface baits.

I lived in nawlins' in the 80's. I mostly fished inside waters around hopedale or Delacroix island. caught some nice fish, mostly redfish, saltwater speckled trout, & an occasional flounder. reading this is making me miss it.

I grew up in New Orleans and the fishing is one of the things I do miss. Fished in waters where you could catch salt water and fresh water fish in the same spot. Some of my fondest summer memories are taking off every day with my buds to go fishing or crawfishing.
