Bee Culture has started producing a magazine for the novice beekeeper.  They are publishing 4 issues per year.  I picked up the winter 2016 copy out of curiosity.  Great, seasonal articles geared towards the beginner.  The retail cost was $6.95, I think.  A subscription would make a great gift for the beginning beekeeper in your life.   C:-)
