Sometimes Opportunity DOES knock more than once
« on: January 31, 2014, 01:48:10 am »
Last Thursday morning, after I got home from working the night shift and I was sleeping, I thought I heard something around noon.  It was a knocking at the door.  They knocked again.  By the time I got up and put on my robe, they knocked again. (I am very thankful for their persistence!).  When I opened the door, it was the man that owns the property next to me.  He said, "Do you want to buy the 5 acres next to you?  I need to sell it."  I said, "Yes!"

I am going to sign the papers tomorrow afternoon.  That will give me 10 1/2 acres total.  The high voltage power lines run through the middle of our property.  I am going to bush hog the right of way under the power lines and plant lots of clover, and maybe lots of sunflowers.  There is already lots of wildflowers and a good crop of goldenrod that comes up every year.

I don't plan on building on the land or anything.  I'm mainly buying it so that nobody else will build on it and I can maintain my privacy and space.

So I'm a happy beekeeper!  :D

Anytime you can grab a patch of land at a good price (especially if it's bordering property), do it
They don't make it anymore.
Congrats!

I found out he paid the taxes the other day, just to have everything taken care of.  Property taxes on 5 acres for one year:  $86.   ;D

Great news modem, congratulations. :)
Friend of mine with over 300 colonies, has one yard under the power lines.
That's his best yard, above the average honey yield, and winter loses zero, for 5 winters now.
No scientific explanation, that I am aware of, but if I had such a location I would experiment.

Wonderful knock to awake to.  Our neighbor just bought the 55 acres next to me.  He's going to clear some of the woods so he has more farm land.  In a couple years he said he'd sell me about 20 acres of woods that connect to my 10.  Can't wait.  He already lets us hunt it and I'll be putting swarms traps on it this spring.

Congrats and enjoy  8)

We went this afternoon and signed all the papers and registered the deed.  So  now I own ten acres instead of 5.   ;D

Now all I have to do is head back to work and make some more money.

A guy here at work told me I was a land barron now.  I told him it was more like I was dirt poor.   :-\

Awesome Greg! I have high power lines crossing my 5 acres in the back about 100 yards prior to my yard.  I always wonder if it makes my bees super bees!  Anyway, my neighbor has 5 acres juxtaposed to my property near the yard that he wants to sell me.  I am waiting for the cash and for his asking price to drop.  He's getting pretty old and I think he will want to sell it soon.

Perry, I caught your point about land not being made anymore...ha!
