One Way to Get an Extractor
« on: February 24, 2014, 07:59:23 am »
As many in chat have heard I've purchased a used extractor.  The problem was it was located in Northern Vermont almost 5 hours away.

Thankfully, the seller was willing to work with me to make it easier for me to pickup. He was willing to drive over to his local airport to drop it off to me.

Going by plane chopped the trip time down to 2 hrs with no traffic!

The weather gods cooperated yesterday and we got the deal done.

I'm now the proud owner of a Maxant 20 frame extractor.
Now all I need is some frames to extract.   8)

I'm starting to think that the bees are keeping me...

First, some of the happiest hours of my life were spent as a pilot.  My long time plane was a Cessna 182.  Second, that extractor sure filled up the cockpit.  Third, like you, I have a real nice Maxant extractor and wish I had some honey bound frames to run through it.  Fourth, must have been a fun filled trip.  Imagine using your favorite toy to abet your favorite  hobby.  It doesn't get any better than that.

Gongrats Keith. I know you worked hard and long to get this deal done, and looking at that extractor you got a good deal., it looks to be in great shape and will probably outlast us all.
I would have loved to have been on that trip, although I don't like flying, and there doesn't look like there was a lot of room to spare.  :D
Thanks for posting those great pics.

Looked like a fun day all the way around.

Good score on the extractor.

Sorry, couldn't help myself  :D

"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best-" and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were.

All told I saved about 500 over new.  Good enough savings for me!
the guy selling was super cool and went out of his way for me.  He even brought his 3 year old daughter along to see the plane.

it was a good day with excellent scenery.

Yeah the cockpit (at least the back seat and cargo area) was pretty full.  I had to leave the home made stand behind.
Good times for sure!  ;D

I think you saved more than 500 dollars and had a good time doing it.  It was the type of thing me and my boys would have called an "adventure."  In an extractor of that size, I would think the bulk of the cost would be in the huge stainless steel body.  That being the case, you made a good buy.  Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.

Leaving the home made stand behind Knowing you you'll build a better one anyway. Congrats Keith.
Scratch one Item off the list and it adds more Sump, Pump, Storage bottling tank.
