Yes, I call them up, order what I need and then they figure out the closest place they deliver to and drop it off there. They do one run every week, I think the valley run is on Tuesdays. I think in your area Michelle the go to Yum foods.

Bryan- The fondant recipe from Ray is easy to make and my bees are all over it!

Rays recipe using the honey from your hive. Use no other honey but the honey that has come from your hives.

Also, go to Beekkeeping 101, scroll down till you find "FONDANT RECIPES ~ SHARE YOUR RECIPES HERE". A lot of good info there, escpecially what NOT to put into your fondant

To me, Fondant is soft, almost spreadable. if its HARD it is either cakes or candy. If it is boiled its usually candy..

Honey actually contains the same basic sugar units as table sugar. Both contain glucose and fructose. Granulated table sugar, or sucrose, has glucose and fructose hooked together, whereas in honey, fructose and glucose remain in individual units.

Maybe I am missing something in the heat, is it breaking down those units so the bees do not have to do it?  It only takes minutes to make cakes, and even LESS time to do it Mountain camp style.
I understand the draw of being able to ORDER Fondant, slice and slap, but why would you go to the trouble of cooking for the bees?
Not being pessimistic, I am actually curios what benefits there are in spending all that time to make the candy board?

IMO we use Fondant because: That's the way it's always been done. :-[
From what I've read: Fondant is just candy mechanically broken down, similar to cremed honey.

For me personally, using fondant is too easy not to. For 50 lbs. at $50, if I make up a bunch of patties that will buy some hungry hives a couple of weeks time in early spring, it is money well spent.
1 hive that survives because I was able to help it through could end up being one of the hives I easily pull a nuc from (maybe even 2) earning me $170 or $340!
That 1 nuc pays for 150 lbs. of fondant that saves a lot of other hives.

Thanks a lot for the info on the fondant, I like the delivery of fondant that Perry posted but I am quite sure they wouldn't deliver in this small area the only bakery here would be Sobey's. Thanks Jen for the thread info for using your own honey, I may try that one........Thanks again everyone  :)

Your welcome Bryan  :)  This was the first time I attempted fondant, but I really think that it's more candy than fondant because it's not pliable. But the bees are all over it, so I'm good with it.

I ordered from them Bryant and my hives were so heavy going into the winter and I could barely lift a deep. I could easily "heft" the 2 deeps and I have started feeding them.

Hi Michelle, I learned how to heft my hive last year and did see the difference in weight as stores were being consumed. But this year, I still cannot heft my three hives and the bees are all over the honey candy I put in there as a reserve.

I don't know if I should remove the candy and let them eat their honey, or just leave as is and let them choose their own buffet. I'm leaning toward the later, as long as they are enjoying something to eat and stay sustained. And this honey candy is still good food for them.

Leave it as is, and that means "don't add any more unless they become light".

Hmm, that's a good idea. They are going thru the candy every two weeks.
