Frame building jigs. 32 frames at a time.
« on: January 31, 2015, 10:37:18 pm »
I built 2 frame assembly jigs yesterday and gave them a try today. Each jig will do 16 frames. 32 frames at a time. These things worked great. I knocked out a bunch of frames in a hurry today. Was doing them one at a time.

Impressive Yankee, I made a jig for 8 frames at a time, that is the way to go!

It really makes one think about how they were doing it before the jig. :o
A dab of titebond III and a 1/4" crown staple and budda-bing!

It was a all day affair for me, or at least a 6 packs worth.

Now I'm done on the first bottle. :D

I have a 10 frame jig. I can't imagine assembling frames without the jig now.
Yankee, you using 8 frame equipment?  I was wondering why 16 instead of 20
I'm starting to think that the bees are keeping me...

Robo posted an excellent drawing for the frame jig that will help you make your own.
Bushfarms.com has some good pictures about box jigs, you might find them helpful as you build a jig.  HTH   :)

Mine does 13 frames at a time..  just cause thats the number that it came out to when I glued it together....   WAY faster and easier than one at a time.

I made them out of some scrap maple plywood I had and that was as long as it was.

Did a speed test today.

Glued, loaded, assembled and stapled. 16 in 7 1/2 minutes. ;D

Is that including the 2 staples through the end bars into the top bar?

PS, that picture would have been perfect except for that graffiti on the chair.

Looks good. I've got to build me one of those. I'm still doing them the old fashioned way; one at a time. Yankee, I might do 1 in 7½ minutes! Thanks for sharing your pictures.

I say there, tefer2, you sure look a lot like a guy they call hardwood in that video. You could pass as brothers.   ;D

We started out with a jig that does 16.

Then went to one that does 32.

Next will be one that does an even 40. AND make it so it does 20 deeps and 20 mediums at the same time. Just knock out a whole hives worth in 10 minutes.

Stay Tuned. ;D

Tefer2, where can I find a tip for the glue bottle like the one you use in that video?  I haven't seen one that long for getting the glue just where you want it.  TIA  :)

Lee, those tips were purchased at the food service supply. They fit on a plastic squeeze bottle.
