Lost my friend and cousin last weekend, and am now trying to catch up here at home, so life is suddenly busy at a time of the year it shouldnt be. I'll be back!

Sorry to hear that. I got a phone call tonight that my friend of 43 years died in Illinois. He's the one I have talked to you about before. He died in July and nobody notified me until tonight.

Lazy, from your wording it wasn''t clear to me if you suffered two losses (1. friend 2. cousin) or one loss (friend who was also your cousin).
Either way, losses of those close to us tend to put one "off balance" for a while. Go easy and allow yourself enough time to get back on track. I feel for you.

One person who was Both Ef.. Ted, I dont know if you got to meet Randy or not. He was the one I built the blown 56 Chevy truck for...
I have not even had time to finish winterizing my bees... but with temps supposed to be in the 50's this week I will get them finished.. With the warm temps and nothing to gather i am betting they are going to use up their supplies faster than normal.. I will be buying about 17K worth of bees this spring, and with my truck mostly finished its time to buy the wood for 100+ nucs, a few new hives and lots of frames.. not to mention the foundation for those frames... Got a pollination job in Maine I have managed to put off for one year to get my number of hives boosted.. Wife is looking at land in Texas for wintering hives, mine and anyone elses that needs someone to care for their bees until they hit almonds... I fear the JOY in keeping bees will be torn from me forcibly... but you never know until you give it a go...
Rhubarb wine backsweetened with Honey is about to be bottled... Looking forward to testing that extensively. Zweef, whens your next trip planned?

Scott, I'm sorry for your loss. We seem to never know how much we love people until after they are gone. As Ef said, take some time to heal and regroup. Nothing is as important as our loved ones. In my opinion, our happiness depends on how much we love others. The rest of life is about earning a living and having fun doing so. I think you have mastered that part of life. Tell the people you care about how much you love them, as some of them may well leave your life.

If your wife is looking at Texas land, she may want to view the Central texas area from Fort Worth to about 100 miles west. Land can be bought in that area for $2,500.00 to $4,000.00. Most of the land has usable ground water and there will be many days in December through mid February that the bees can and will fly. Wintering is easy. Check with Lborou, as he is an accomplished beekeeper and familiar with this area. Some of that land will have abundant wild flowers that start blooming by the end of February. Pollen will be available earlier in the year.

Thats one hundred hives Jen. I will be splitting when they are on Canola and probably treating with OAV at the same time. I will have 600 to 1000 hives to treat including my own when there. The splits will be brought back here and grown, plus I will be splitting my own hives, and attempting some major queen rearing to replace some of the purchased queens used in the splits. So basically, they will run the route to Blueberries and then they will be sold. I hope, to make my money back, and benefit from the splits, plus I will make a little for all the treatments...
I bough the cart, engine, Alternator and Deep cycle battery today, but will have to wait to assemble it... Taking the newly rebuilt truck with my gooseneck up to help my friends son move his stuff tomorrow, the visitation is Friday, and the Funeral is Saturday... Not going to be a good weekend, but once its past... i have a hundred nucs and half as many hives to build, not to mention welding the OAV Cart together and getting a couple more Varrox vaporizors. One foot in front of the other. And Ted.. I was kidding, I wouldnt deprive you of the amusement.

We should be done pumping hog manure this weekend. I know what you all are thinking but, it's not as glamorous as it sounds. I am in good with the lead dude so if anyone is looking for a career change...of course we'd have to see how you do in the interview! Okay, where was I? Oh yeah, I'll be available starting next week to help with bees or building, or just standing around saying ahunh, ahunh, ahunh! And count me in on helping with the splits, treating (have vaporizer and willing to travel!). Hey, kick around the idea of me traveling to Maine with you and your bees! I could help you set them up, eat lobster for a couple days then fly home?! Wait, wait, wait, your WIFE! You haven't seen your wife! Yeah, I think I'll just leave you to it. Ted

I'm sure something could be arranged Ted... Though I doubt you will want to stay anywhere near where my wife and I are, at least the first night, or the second.... Maybe I can find somewhere else for you for a week?

Splits will be done when they are on Canola... of course all of this depends on if we can GET bees to begin with... If the deal falls through I will be buying some packages and splitting and making queens on an epic scale, at least compared to my usual scale. Monday I will be working on the vaporizer cart at the shop. When thats done I will be taking a trip to buy wood and the building will commence.
