So the militia demands are:  Free the Hammons?

Iddee you mentioned Rosa Parks.  I must have forgotten the part where she boarded the bus carrying an assault rifle?  ;)

Did you also forget where she broke the law to get a bad law changed?

Yes, they say they are going to "peacefully" stay there until the Hammons are released, if no violence is used against them.

No, I did not forget about the breaking of a law, I just remembered that it was done in a non-threatening way and that she was willing to go to jail for her actions, not shoot it out with the authorities.

Being re-sentenced sounds a bit like double jeopardy.

What I read was that their land (Hammonds Ranch) butts up against the govment land.  Hammonds set the fire, on the boarder of the two properties intentionally, that burned up part of the g-ment land.  I would like to see a court transcript of that case.  I'm going to dig around a bit and see what I can find.  Still, it sounds like double jeopardy to me.

Is the wildlife refuge still open to the public?

The Hammond's were sentenced and served most of it, waiting on their appeal. The appeal Judge decided that the original Judge had been too lenient. Too bad, but that how it works.

I don't believe in some of the ways government is taking over.  But again I don't agree with the media circus our news creates on a daily basis.  If everyone would pack up and leave the scene.  The protester would go home.  From what I understand a lot of the ranchers really don't want them there

Give the land back to the people it was stolen from: the Paiute.  The ranchers were paid in 1934 when the park was made, the native americans were not. So it is either public land or it belongs to the people it was actually stolen from.

I don't know enough about the Bundy's to make an intelligent comment, but I would remind all that our country is supposed to be a REPUBLIC.  God help us if we ever become a total democracy.

What i have seen and read about the Bundys and the US of A fight, is most likely what most on hear knows about what's going on?? This is America, there is a right way and wrong way to settle things, taking up arms and threaten the government (US) so we have to send people in harms way that have nothing to do with what's going on, because they work for the government and are sworn to up hold the law. To me the Bundys are no more than terrorist. When my brother (a highway patrolman) was sent to the riot in Kansas city, Mo. and we had a real Governor (Warren Hearns)the rioters were breaking out store windows and sailing chunks of glass at the officers marching down the street to break it up. Governor Hearns was notified of it, he issued the order to shoot and shoot to kill. The riot was over. Not saying they should do that to the Bundys, because they haven't hurt anyone YET, but, they are going about it the wrong way. Jack

My opinion on the situation isn't fully formed yet. Later, in the evening, when I'm not covered up with chores I will look up all I can about it. I do believe the founding fathers intended for all true patriots to resist perceived tyrannical actions by even our elected officials. Free speech guarantees our right to do so. The right to keep and bear arms is also intended towards that end. Taking up arms should absolutely be a last alternative, and my personal belief is in our nation it really shouldn't be necessary. With the media and internet, one can plead his case to the population and cause a lot of problems for our public servants at election time. If he has been illegally resentenced, I assume any number of attention seeking lawyers would love to take that case.
Our form of government is lousy at immediate solutions though, and often many brave and innocent people suffer and even die before their grievances are addressed. Good example is Rosa Parks, Martin L. King, Geronimo and many others.

Yes, it takes different angles to get it done.

There were two Mr. Kings.

Martin's supporters, and Rodney's supporters.

So, were they ALL peaceful, and did peaceful protest always get the job done?

""In Nevada, Cliven Bundy owes more than a million dollars in grazing fees.""

So BLM is charging millions in grazing fees and then closing the land to grazing. I think I would be perturbed, too, if I was paying that kind of money to be ran off.

The more than a million is combined fees and fines accrued over years of grazing without paying.  Those fees and fines are still unpaid and they are still grazing cattle there.  Strange story and difficult to decipher  with a bias slant to almost every article.

Key worlds right there and it slants to both direction depending on who tells it

Exactly so Rat, exactly so.

Makes me wonder if the truth, as usual, lays somewhere towards the middle.

Well, at least we agree on that point. No one is telling the whole truth, and never will.

At $1.69 per head per month unpaid for 20 years for however many cattle it does take a while to get to a million, but there are some late charges. That is what they are currently charging for one cow and her calf per month.

And while the ranchers are saying there is no drought they are collecting drought checks from USDA I think, so that compensates for when they are not allowed to graze. However they have shredded what remains of that range. My uncle used to live out there. He died in 2014. I don't bother to go out there now, the wild horses and burros are pretty well gone. Somewhere I have a photo of a burro trying to eat the camera.  Cattle I can see in Texas. Around the corner.

Why would the government continue to let ranchers graze there cattle when they haven'y payed the rent from the year before, and longer?? If you or i owed the government (say income taxes) and didn't pay them for several years, and stood in front of my house with a AK 47 and dare them to come and try to collect? I think i know what would happen. :o Am i missing something here??? Jack

I think you are missing all the other ranchers who pay up each year and get their cattle ran off when only one or two stand and fight.

Those are good and fair questions to ask Jack!  I encourage you to dig around and see what info you can find!  As I said earlier, it is a strange tale.  Just as a reminder, I haven't found an article yet that wasn't written from one perspective or another.   Ted
